Proprietary (non-FHA) reverse mortgages have been rapidly expanding in market share relative to HECMs in the last 1-2 years. Features and options offered by the available proprietary loans have changed significantly in the last few years as well. As a result, even experienced HECM counselors may not be prepared to help borrowers understand the real differences between the two types. Companies that offer proprietary loans may have their own requirements regarding counseling. However, all borrowers who are being presented with this choice deserve to have reliable information, and all HECM counselors should have at least a basic understanding of the differences.
This webinar will highlight both the similarities and differences between proprietary and HECM reverse mortgages and will give counselors enough information to help borrowers make an informed decision about which loan to pursue for their specific needs.
